Samabar Rice/Samabar Sadam

Samabar Sadam is one of my favourite lunch.When I have to cook only for myself I feel Lazy to prepare rice,curry and Gravy seperately.That time sambar sadam will be my choice.It is easy to prepare within very few minutes yet full of vegetables,rice and dhal which make you to feel like you had a full course meals.Potato chips or any pappad will be the best companion for this.

Ingredients 
Rice -1 cup
Dhoor dhal-1/2 cup
Skins peeled Small onions-5 nos
Chopped green chilli-1 no
Chopped tomato-1 nos
Chopped vegetables of your choice-1/2 cup (I normally use 1 carrot,1 potato and 2 beans of medium size)
Coriander leaf- as required
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder-1/2 tsp
Jeera powder-1/2 tsp
Coriander powder-1/2 tsp
Turmarind puli-1/2 tsp
Mustard and urad dhal -1/2 tsp
Curry leaf- handful amount
Hing/asafoetida-1/4 tsp
Fenugreek-1/4 tsp
Jeera-1/4 tsp
Ghee-2 tsp
Oil as per requirement
Water-4.5 cups
Salt

Heat oil in a cooker and put mustard seed into it.once it popped up add urad dhal,jeera,fenugreek,asafoetida,curry leaf one by one.


Now add onion into the cooker and sauté it for a min.Then add chopped tomato and sauté it again for a min.



Now add in the chopped veggies and again sauté it.Then add the spice powders one by one (turmeric powder,red chilli powder,jeera powder and coriander powder)and mix it well.

Now add the washed rice and dhal to the cooker and give a nice mix. Add salt and Turmarind pulp to the cooker and mix well.Now pour water into the cooker and allow it to boil. Close the lid and put the whistle on, once water started boiling.Wait for 4-5 whistles and then switch off the flame.

Once the pressure goes off,open the lid,add ghee and coriander leaf,then give a nice mix.
Yummy yummy Saambar saadham is ready. Enjoy it with fried pappad or chips.
