Venpongal

Venpongal is one of the best Breakfast for any special day. I don`t like this recipe during my childhood days.One day I happened to taste it in a hotel in Madurai when I was in a hurry for my MAT Entrance Exam.Since I started very early from my home, I didn`t had any food,So I have no other go that time.This was the only recipe which was ready to serve at that early morning in that hotel,So I ordered Pongal and had it.It tastes like Heaven to me that day.From that day onwards I started liking this Breakfast.My hubby also likes venpongal a lot.So post marriage I used to make this dish often and now it is one of the regular breakfast dish in my home.But I used to make this on weekends,because this calorie rich breakfast makes us to feel sleepy :P.

Ingredients 
1. Normal cooking rice-1 cup
2. Moong dhal-1/2 cup
3. Ghee- 5to 6 tsp
4. Roughly crushed pepper- 1 tsp
5. Roughly crushed jeera -1 tsp
6. Cashew nuts- 10 nos
7. Curry leaf-1 strip
8. Finely chopped ginger-1 small piece
9. Salt- to taste

Start by melting a tsp of ghee in a pressure cooker.
Add washed moong dhal and rice to the cooker and stir it well.
Now add water to it and mix it well.Close the lid and put whistle.
Wait for 5 min and then open the cooker lid. Add salt and Mash the cooked rice moong dhal mixture well with a ladle.

Heat the remaining ghee in a Kadaai and add cashew nuts to it.Fry it till it become golden brown in Color.Now add ginger,crushed jeera,pepper and curry leaves one by one into the Kadaai and fry it for few seconds.Then add the fried ingredients to the cooked and mashed rice-moong dhal mixture.
Mix it well and serve the yummy Venpongal with Sambar and coconut Chutney.Enjoy the yummy Breakfast.
