Mothagam-Ganesh chathurthi receipe
Ingredients
Rice flour-2 cups
Grated coconut-1/2 cup
Boiled channa dal-1/2 cup
jaggery-1 cup
Ghee- 3 tsp
Salt- 1 tsp
Water
Instructions
1.Lets start by prepare the dough.
Boil 4 cups of water in a kadal and add a tsp of salt to it.
Now add the rice flour and stir the mixture to form a soft dough.
(Do it by keep the flame at simmer level)
Transfer the dough to a bowl and put a wet cloth over it.
Keep it aside to cool
2.Preparation of puranam.
Put jaggery in thick bottomed Kadaai and add water to it to immerse the gaggery.
Let the jaggery to melt and then filter it using a filter to remove any dust particles present
Clean the Kadaai and melt 2 tsp of ghee.
Add grated coconut and fry it for 2-3 min.
Add the boiled, mashed channa Dhal to the fried coconut and then jaggery syrup.
Cook the mixture till the water evaporates and forms the puranam texture.
Allow the mixture to cool
3. Preparation of mothgam
Boil water in a idly cooker.
In the meantime,Make equal number of small balls out of the puranam and the rice flour dough separately.
Apply ghee in your hand and make a cup out of the small rice flour dough.
Place the puranam balls inside it,cover the cup in such a way to form the mothgam shape.
Now grease the idly tray with ghee,place the prepared mothgam in It and steam it.
Tasty healthy mothgam is ready for the padayal.
